Earlier this month I came across
{In the Picture}:new perspective a new to me self portrait challenge with
Urban Muser and thought I would give it a bash.
The remit was to take a portrait/s of yourself in a manner that you wouldn't normally attempt so that if you like colour go for black and white or, if you are like me on the whole a hands and feet person to be super brave and have a go at including your face.
 |
| not a very inspiring picture because I am not super brave but I like it because the poster was advertising a tapas Trail and we live in a town that holds an annual sausage trail |
I am not,as you will all be aware,a photogenic person, but there is something I find compelling about taking photos of myself ... eager and as hopeful as an old Californian gold prospector that one day the elusive ultimate nugget of a photo will turn up and I can retire satisfied that I am possibly not quite as horrific as I feel I am.

| new sunglasses....sorry Pogs! |
Anyway,I wasted most of the month and thought that my recent sojourn away would provide ample opportunities for self portraiture...wrong.Too busy looking for somewhere for my daughter to live combined with eating and basking basilisk-like in sunshine meant only a few selfies were snapped and the vast majority of those were discarded. Not so much a new perspective for me either.More of a new environment as my selfies mostly get taken either at home or in the garden and generally in the gloom.

If you fancy a go there is still time to post and link up or click the button on the side and have a look at other contributors portraits.
Oh that last image. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you!! and thank you for taking the time to stop by!
DeleteSomehow the conjured mental image of a basking basilisk is worth any number of (non) self-portraits, but I do love the photos you came up with. The one of you with your crochet surrounded by the sun, the curtains, and the reflections is especially beautiful.
ReplyDeletethank you Katrina...I know it doesn't sound quite right but you get the idea!!
DeleteThis is a wonderful set! I love the last one; beautiful light!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment and for taking a look!
Deletei like the reflection in the sunglasses. be gentle with yourself and keep practicing...it gets easier to take self-portraits. thanks for linking up this month, i hope to see you again.
ReplyDeleteThank you and hopefully I will give next months theme a go too!
DeleteWonderful light and reflections.
ReplyDeleteLove the sunglasses picture!
Thank you...all a bit silly really!
DeleteI quite like the headless one, is that weird? There's something about the composition that I find compelling. And I really like the crochet self-portrait; the glass table top is almost like the sea. :)
ReplyDeleteNo! I like it too!! Thank you as ever!
DeleteI like the mystery of the first photo and the different neutral colours and textures. The crochet picture is lovely with the glass table and the play of light!
ReplyDeletethank you so much and for taking the time to have a look and comment!
DeleteCatherine, I love these shots. The shoulder and poster and connection of the first, the fun of the Jackie O style sunglasses and your reflection in their lenses in the second and the glorious light and shade of the last. You know I always love your photos and writings. Keep enjoying this challenge, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn! Yes I shall see what next months theme is when it is unveiled and see about giving it a go.
DeleteGreat set. I love the last shot especially - the light and the mood are perfect. Your sunglasses shot made me smile, so fun.
